Greetings from Tom Atkinson

Pros news

Each week I report on the golf results from around the world. This week it's a very special write up as Lee Slattery claimed his second European Tour title in the M2M Russian Open. Lee lost his card by only a few thousand Euros last season but this win means his playing privileges are secure for another 18 months. Well done, Lee and well done to Alan Thompson as his coach.

Shop news

Our shoe pyramid is slowly getting smaller but there are still lots of fantastic shoes on offer. Please come and have a look before the sale ends.

My winter stock has started to arrive! With waterproof suits, jumpers, hats, brollies plus all of the essential kit, Heswall pro shop will keep you swinging over the winter months.

It will soon be time for me to attend the annual Golf Trade Show in Harrogate. If there is anything missing from the shop that you would like to see next year, please come in and have a chat. I would like to feel that I can cater for a large demographic in both the clothing and hardware categories. If you want you can get in touch with me here with any suggestions of brands/products you'd like to see in store.

Ladies news

The Ladies Stableford results from last week are in. Division One was yet another family battle as Lucy Jamieson pipped her mum Barbara to the win after they had scores of 37 and 36 points, respectively. Congratulations to Anna Webster for her third place finish on 35. Bernie Jones was Division Two's winner also with 37 points, two clear of Jaquai Hynes with 35, third was Marilyn Jones with 34. In Division Three, Jean Breckenridge took top spot with 32 points, one ahead of both Sandra Cohen and Pat Sheen in second and third. Anne Fisher was victorious in Division Four with 34 points, one ahead of runner-up Gill Cooper, who was one ahead of Helen Billington in third.

This Tuesday the ladies played their St. Andrews Medal accompanied by some late summer sunshine. In Division One, Kate Dean carded a two-under the CSS score of 73 to win by two from Barbara Jamieson and three from Sara Spencer in third. Marilyn Jones took kept her recent form going to scoop Division Two's honours with a 77, runner-up was Steff Way who kept the wheels on for a 78 despite having to take them off her trolley on the 1st tee! Third also with 78 was Jaquai Hynes. In Division Three, Sandra Cohen triumphed by one shot from Pat Platt with her 74, third with 76 was Jan Lyon. And in Division Four Trisha Lees stormed to a three shot victory with 74. Runner-up with a 77 was Helen Billington with Jackie Walker two further back in third.

Competition news

The penultimate Trotter of the year was won by possibly the hardest working member of the club. Matthew Bowes puts all the time he can afford into his game and I'm delighted to announce his nett 65 as the winner last Thursday. Very well done, Matt! There were three scores of 69 next, Gary Lewis and Daniel Ince edging out Dave Cederholm on countback.

Saturday's weather was very welcome after a very wet week, with 154 golfers competed in the Stableford. Division One was won by Bryan Baldwin who carded two 'blobs' on the way to 39 points. Runner-up on 38 was Sam Austin who pipped Thomas Kitchen on countback. In Division Two, a countback was again needed as this time Ade Wright edged out Tudor Marsh after a pair of 38s. Third with 37 was Paul Howard.

There were 20 teams trying to claim Sunday's 2 Generations Trophy. For the second year running the trophy went back to the Kitchen household as Ann Maria and son John ran out winners with an impressive score of 71. Runners-up were Graham and Ben Dixon on 72.

Golf Care

Are you taking a risk?

Every time we hear someone say they don’t have golf insurance, we wince. The potential costs associated with injuring someone with a stray shot, for example, should be enough to make you think about taking out a policy. We can help find a suitable policy that covers you with our recommended insurance provider, Golf Care, here…
