What a fantastic win for the GB&I team in the Walker Cup. I know many of you headed up to Royal Lytham to watch the fantastic golf on offer. These youngsters are the future of British golf and will be prominent in some major professional events for the remainder of the season.
European Tour followers will have spotted that Lee Slattery almost made it back-to-back wins as he finished runner-up to Thomas Pieters in Holland. Great to see Lee in this form and let's hope he keeps his Ryder Cup place as he currently is leading the standings.
We have been forecast some serious snow this winter, not good news. However it may not all be glum. You will have the chance to play some indoor golf at the club. I'm awaiting delivery of my new SkyTrak launch monitor which will allow you to:
Play different golf courses
Have a range session with distance and accuracy measurements
Learn about the data that comes from the golf ball, spin, speed, launch angle and more
Here's the best bit - its portable nature means that not only can it be used anywhere at all, but you can actually buy one for yourself. I will invite people to come and use mine as soon as it lands. In the meantime have a look for yourself at www.skytrakgolf.com.
If you want to register your interest early, then please get in touch now.
Thu 10 Sep - Thursday's Trotter 18 was the last one of the season. Congratulations to scratch team captain Dave Cederholm for his overall victory. He had lead for much of the season having fought off some stiff completion. In the event itself it was another of the regular range goers that took the victory as Phil Taylor carded a season best 68, he was one ahead of the in-form Alan Jones on 69 with Mark Sanderson finishing the best of three 71s.
Sat 12 Sep - Blue tees were the order of the day for the Autumn Meeting on Saturday and it was that man again, Dave Cederholm, who won Division One with a superb 73 (nett 69), spurred on of course by his team's 3-1 demolition of Chelsea at lunchtime! One shot back was Harry Kennedy who beat Joe Williamson on countback. In Division Two, Steve Roberts wasn't about to be outdone as he too carded a 69, two behind him in second was Ben Kelly and then in third was Brian Dhenin with 76.
Sat 12 Sep - There was also a big score in the alternative Yellow Tee Stableford as Richard Blackburn carded a storming 41 points. In second place on 39 was Peter Stokes and in third was Mark Prosser with 38 (Mark doing considerably better than his football team that day).
Sun 13 Sep - On Sunday it was the juniors turn to win some silverware. Their Club Championship was won by Joe Williamson with a 74 (nett 70), one ahead of Daniel Ince. Sam Burford finished third with 72. In the 18-hole Stableford Josh Samaroo was the runaway winner with 43 points, second on 38 was Hayat Leung and in third with 37 was Hannah Kurton. In the 12-hole event, Jamie Hadden claimed victory with a four point win from Joe Spencer in second.
It is my great pleasure to announce that our Junior Team has won the Wirral League for 2015. It was a closely fought contest and our record of four wins, one draw and one loss meant we topped the league by a single point from Wallasey and Calday. Congratulations to all the juniors who played for the Junior Team this year:
Jack Dodd (Captain), Dan Ince, Elliott Harris, Joe Williamson, Tom Ktichen, Ben Dixon, Adam Carter, Sam Burford, Dan Kitchen, Cameron McIvor, Matty Cucchi and Matty Bowes.
The Lady Captain's Prize Finals Day didn't start off too great but the sun soon shone upon this 27-hole medal event. The overall prize went to Helen Billington with fantastic scores of 72 and 35 for a 107 total. Runner-up with 74 and 38 for 112 was Heather Ensor and in third, with 80 and 36 for 116, was Claire Palmer.
In the Subsidiary Stableford event, Division One saw Sue Humphreys pip Sue Banks after they both scored 34 points, one ahead of Sandy Cooper in third. In Division Two, Wendy Smith was the winner with 31, one back in second was Sandra Jones and in third with 29 was Marilyn Jones. Pat Platt won Division Three with her score of 30 points, runner-up with 28 was Joan Wilson and in third with 26 was Joyce Richmond. And in Division Four, Gill Cooper topped the list with 25, one ahead of both Sylvia Brown and Anne Chadwick.
The Summer Fourball final was contested on Tuesday night between Charlie Berry/Dave Cederholm v Phil High. Phil was on his own as his partner now lives in New Mexico!! Here's the result in Dave's own words:
"Charlie and I won 3&1, all credit to Phil who played great and kept us on our toes all the way round, he birdied 14 to get back to 1, very close match!"
