You will be interested to know that more and more tour pros and elite amateurs are sacrificing some of their yardage for ultimate consistency these days. For example, the average carry of a 7-iron on the PGA Tour is only 165 yards. The important thing to realise is that they are carrying it this distance every time. Think about it. The game would be so much easier if you knew that this was going to be the case each time you hit it. How do they do this? They get the right head/shaft combination to control the spin on the ball. When my launch monitor arrives, this will be something we can do for you too!
A few people have recently taken out golf insurance which we have been advertising through Golf Care. This is something that everyone who steps onto the first tee needs to seriously consider. If you don't have a policy in place for as little as £29.99 per year you can be covered. Please visit my website here now.
Another rookie win on the PGA Tour as Smylie Kaufman shot a final round 61 to win by one. In contrast it was experience that shone through in Hong Kong as Justin Rose took the title on the European Tour. On the ladies scene, Lydia Ko cemented her place as the number one lady golfer on the planet with yet another impressive victory out in Taiwan last week. The 18-year-old won by nine shots to become the youngest player to earn 10 wins on the LPGA Tour.
In our Midweek Stableford last Thursday, Mark Dewhurst produced a fine round of 38 points to take the plaudits. Runner-up on the day was Trevor Starkey Jones with 37 points, third was Rick Austin with 36 ahead of Andy Green on countback.
Saturday was the start of the Winter Leagues whereby members will contest the Blair Salver and Chris Kenrick trophies. The afternoon weather was far better than the rain of the morning and this showed in the scores. Last to tee off was Phil High and co, Phil romping to a six-point victory in the Blair as he carded 40 points. Three finished on 34 with Rick Austin then Peter Vine edging out Lee Pennington. In the Chris Kenrick, Nick Brown survived a soaking to win with 35 points, runner-up was Mike Scullion with 33 and third with 30 was Geoff Kimpton.
On Tuesday the ladies played a Texas Scramble Stableford over the 15-hole course. The handicapping on this event was interesting as we needed to work out 1/6 of 15/18.
