Thank you to those who braved the icy cold wind on last week's Short Game Clinic. Once again the results were plain to see, this time after providing the golfers with little more than the 'concept' of what was being asked of them. I will be running more group sessions in the future, groups of 4-6 are welcome to get their heads together and come and see me with areas of the game that they feel need attention. As it is group coaching and will be more clinic-based, the hour lesson comes at a reduced rate of just £10 per person.

It was the Winter League again on Saturday, and it felt like it at times. In the Blair Salver, Tom Dolan went round in four-under-par off +2 for 38 points, pipping Rick Austin who may also find himself off plus figures the way he is going! Third was Lee Pennington on 37, edging out Simon Banks on countback. The Chris Kenrick was also decided on countback as Jim Eddowes beat Ben Kelly on the back nine after a pair of 39s, two back in third was Richard Larkins.
The ladies played a Team Yellow Ball event on Tuesday. The player with the yellow ball was terrified over every shot wanting not to lose it. With a winning score of 73 and five clear were Helen Billington, Marilyn Jones, Sheila Scott and Pat Kearon. Runners up with 68 were Theresa O'Neill, Pat Sheen, Steph Way and Annmaria Kitchen. In third with 67 were Jaquai Hynes, Linda Denton, Wendy Smith and Heather Ensor.
In a star-studded field for the HSBC Champions event in Shanghai, it was last-minute entry Russell Knox who stole the show. The Scotsman (based in the US) carded a final round of four-under-par to win. On the PGA Tour it was the 5th first-time winner in five events as Peter Malnati took the Sanderson Farms Championship.
